BASA United

BASA United Overview

This program is different from every other program in the area.  Everywhere else, you must either choose recreational or full competitive in which year-round travel and large financial commitments are required.  BASA is doing it differently.  Reasonably priced, 2 separate seasons, and typically no travel outside of 100 miles (unless your team chooses), this program is for players who have excelled at the Rec level and want more development and competition than Rec, but less commitment than full competitive.

  • Tryouts before each season.  Placement within this program is NOT guaranteed.
    • Players who are not placed in the program are encouraged to join our Rec program, practice, and tryout again the following season…do not get discouraged!
    • Interested players should have at least 2 seasons of Rec play to consider this level.
  • Teams may be formed for U9-U18 age groups.
  • Teams will be determined each season based on the number and ability of players interested to help ensure an appropriate level of competitiveness.  Roster sizes are at the discretion of BASA.
  • Teams usually play against the 2nd or 3rd teams of full competitive clubs or against clubs from other smaller communities.
  • Training with licensed/experienced coach once a week in addition to a team coach-led practice.
  • This program assumes that players will be practicing with the ball on their own, in addition to practices.  This is critical to seeing real development in players.

BASA United Mission Statement

It is the mission of the BASA United Program to provide for players in the U9-U18 age groups who have excelled at the recreational level and want more development and competition than recreational, but less commitment than full competitive.

Age Groups

  • Unlike Rec, which groups by grade, BASA United must group by birth year. This is a national mandate and all teams above the rec level comply.
  • Depending on numbers, teams may consist of combined age groups.

Team Formation Philosophy

  • The goal is to provide excelling players an intermediate level of play.
  • Teams are typically made up of either single age groups (ex. U9 only) or even-double age groups (U9/10 who play U10, U11/12 who play U12, U13/14 who play U14, etc.).  This lines up with how most tournaments/events run.
  • When having to place players out of their age group, BASA United will work to help keep each team as competitive as possible.  Players should expect to play at their age level, but if need be, understand that if a team must be formed with mixed age groups, then a variety of factors will be considered.  These factors could include but are not limited to:  1.) skill vs size vs speed and what assets could help each team be competitive, 2.) position needs for each team.  Please notice, we are working to keep all teams competitive.
